AI in spreadsheets, Claude and Grok get new powers

I’m traveling this week and short on time, so just sharing a couple recent news updates that I found interesting. I’m especially excited for the Google Sheets Gemini integration—let me know if you give it a try.

Gemini in Google Sheets

You can now type ‘=ai’ to access Google’s Gemini AI directly inside a spreadsheet cell in Google Sheets.

Claude adds deep research and new connections to Google apps

Anthropic has added a “deep research” functionality to its chatbot, Claude, as well as new connections to Google Workspace apps. Claude can now access data in Gmail and Google Calendar, along with Drive.

Deep research has been among the most impactful use cases I’ve found for these AI tools, so I’m happy to see it come to Claude.

Grok adds Studio and Workspaces

Grok now has canvas and project features in its app, similar to ChatGPT and Claude.

Canvases allow you to work on a document, code, or other generated content in a window alongside the main chat thread. Projects allow you to group related chat threads together, along with background documents, and set custom instructions that direct all chats in the project.

Grok calls these “studio” (canvas) and “workspace” (project).
